Monticello letter carriers will help ‘stamp out’ hunger on May 12 when they conduct a food drive on their mail routes to collect non perishable food items for two local food pantries.

Monticello letter carrier Larry Boardman said residents are asked to place any food items they wish to donate in a weather resistant sack, such as a plastic grocery bag, and put the bag out by their mailbox. The letter carrier will pick up the bag and the items will be distributed to the Pauline Baptist Church Food Pantry and the Revival Center Food Pantry.

Last year we collected 1,728 pounds of food,” Boardman said. “Our goal this year is to collect 4,000 pounds.”

The food drive is being conducted in conjunction with a nation-wide food drive by the National Association of Letter Carriers.

Monticello Mayor Allen Maxwell has issued a proclamation recognizing May 12 as Letter Carrier Food Drive Day in Monticello.
