Firefighters and emergency services personnel from 12 agencies in four Southeast Arkansas counties responded to a fire Saturday at Fred’s Dollar Store in Dermott across the street from where the city’s annual Crawfish Festival was being held.
The cause of the fire may be electrical in nature, according to Mike Morgan, chief of security at Chicot County Emergency Management Services.
“They think it was a fire in the back panel box that caused it,” Morgan said.
The fire has been contained.

While firefighters were busy fighting the fire and law enforcement officers were directing traffic, festivities continued across the street at the 29th Annual Dermott Crawfish Festival.

Monticello firefighters, from left, Kelly Reid, Charlie Hammock and Monticello Fire Chief Steven Faulkner were among the firefighters responding to the fire.
