The Southeast Arkansas Community Foundation, an affiliate office of the Arkansas Community Foundation, Inc., awarded funds for two programs provided by The Centers for Youth and Families in Eudora.
Centers for Youth and Families, Arkansas’ oldest continuously operating non-profit has been providing services to families living in Ashley Chicot, Desha and Lincoln counties through their Eudora office located at 2138 Hwy 65 South – previous location of the Mainline Health Clinic, Chicot County Health Unit and the Eudora Senior Citizens Center.
The Centers’ Eudora offers THRIVE teen parent program, an intensive home visiting program which offers support, parenting education and case management to the teen and their family through home visits. Educational and support groups are also provided for both young moms and young dads. The program is offered in communities around Arkansas and has been successful in not only increasing positive parenting skills, but has also proven to be a positive influence on young parents’ decision making.
The overall goal for THRIVE participants is to empower teen parents to provide a healthy, nurturing environment for their children, create positive family relationships and develop personal, educational and vocational skills for a more productive life. The THRIVE program provides the assistance young families need to achieve independence and lead healthy, happy lives.
Centers for Youth and Families in Eudora also offers an after-school program for Chicot County adolescents, ages 12-19. The Choosing the Best program helps motivate students to make healthier choices through relationship education, refusal-skill coaching, and character education. They are given the information they need to set goals and to build the skills they need to make healthy decisions.
Both THRIVE and CHOOSING THE BEST are made possible in part by a grant from the Southeast Arkansas Community Foundation, an affiliate office of the Arkansas Community Foundation, Inc.
