A Bradley County woman was killed and two men were injured Monday in a 6-vehicle accident on U.S. 278 in Wilmar at a railroad crossing.

The accident occurred at 12:07 p.m. on the east side of the railroad crossing at Wilmar when a gravel truck rounded a curve and struck a line of vehicles pushing the woman’s minivan between two 18-wheelers.

Elizabeth Ann Davis, 66, of Warren was killed when a westbound Peterbilt gravel truck driven by Bryant R. Childs, 3o, of Warren, failed to stop at the railroad crossing causing his truck to collide with Davis’ minivan and push the van into a 18-wheeler driven by Windell L. Epting, 44, of Cuma, Ala., according to State Police.

At the same time, the left side of the Childs’ truck struck a truck driven by Brandon Lloyd, 31, of Hamburg and a truck driven by Michael Carter, 57, of Crossett, causing the Epting 18-wheeler to hit the rear of a car driven by Randi Atkins, 21, of Monticello.

Davis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Epting and Childs, who were both injured in the accident, were transported to Drew Memorial Hospital.

Tenth Judicial District Prosecutor Thomas Deen has requested State Police to conduct a criminal investigation in connection with the accident.
