Tornado sirens in Drew County not yet operational

Although all tornado warning sirens have been installed in Monticello and in Drew County, the sirens, according to Monticello Mayor Zack Tucker, are not yet operational pending a final inspection. The sirens should be ready for use in the next several weeks. It is expected that a protocol for their employment will be announced by the city or county when they go online. Possible severe weather on Good Friday

For the second time this week, parts of Southeast Arkansas may experience severe weather. A classic supercell containing a large hail core dumped baseball size hail on Gillette (Arkansas County) and Yancopin (Desha County) before spawning a tornado or tornadoes Tuesday southwest of Gillette and near Watson (Desha County), according to the National Weather Service in Little Rock. Seventy-three years ago, on October 26, 1941, an F-4 tornado roared through residential Hamburg, killing 14 and injuring 200, 25 critically.
