A Mississippi woman was killed and three people were injured Sunday evening in a two-vehicle accident in Chicot County. Mary Williams, 76, of Lucedale, Mississippi, a passenger in a Chevrolet Silverado traveling south on Highway 65 north, died in the accident, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary accident report. The driver of the Silverado, Donald Stamey, 64, and another passenger, Faye Stamey, 64, both of Saraland, Alabama, were injured in the accident. Also injured … Continued
Wednesday Morning Update: Escapee Robert Woodward is still on the run this morning. He is believed to have traveled south on Highway 165 into Louisiana. A Southeast Arkansas man died Saturday in when his motorcycle collided with a car in Chicot County. Mark W. Hopper, 51, of Lake Village, was killed in the accident. Hopper was traveling west on Highway 159 and attempting to turn left onto Highway 65 North when his 2006 Honda Shadow collided with a 2009 Honda Accord which was traveling north on Highway 65, nearing the intersection with Highway 159, according to an Arkansas State Police … Continued
The Hamburg Chamber of Commerce will host Movies on the Square on the downtown square in Hamburg with a showing of the movie Sing on June 29. The movie begins at sunset. Food vendors will be at the event. Described as “American Idol with animals,” Sing is an animated comedy featuring a group of animals who enter a singing competition. Matthew McConaughey, Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, and others provide the voices.
Circuit Judge Sam Pope on Monday will hear a murder suspect’s request for a new attorney. Charles Henry Dobbins, III claims that his current attorney is ineffective. Dobbins is charged with first-degree murder, three counts of committing terroristic acts, and being a felon in possession of a firearm in connection with the 2016 shooting death of 25-year-old Hunter Laney of Pine Bluff. A large bear was killed Monday afternoon in Drew County when it darted across Arkansas 35 from a wooded area on the south side of the highway near Collins and into the path of a pickup truck. The truck hit the bear, which was killed on impact. The second of two men charged last year in the shooting death and robbery of a Crossett woman and the injury of her granddaughter has pleaded guilty to murder and several other crimes.
