A Wilmar man was killed Tuesday night in a shooting at his home. It was the second fatal shooting in Drew County in less than 12 hours. Christon Sheets, 20, was shot twice in the abdomen around 11 p.m. at his home in Wilmar. A man has been arrested in connection with a Tuesday afternoon shooting in Monticello that left one man dead, according to a State Police news release. Arnold LaRon White Sr., 55, of Monticello, is facing manslaughter charges in the death of 54-year-old Harold Miller Jr., also of Monticello. A Warren man was arrested Sunday for allegedly stabbing another man multiple times during an altercation at a Warren residence, according to Sgt. Tim Nichols, a criminal investigator at the Warren Police Department. Nichols said Warren police officers were dispatched Sunday afternoon to the Bradley County Medical Center where Jimmy Broughton of Warren, was being treated for approximately seven stab wounds. Monticello Middle School students will interview local veterans for a Veterans History Project. Veterans who are interested in being a part of the project are asked to complete this online form. All interviews will be sent to the Library of Congress to document the veterans’ stories. Students are asking veterans to be a part of their historical project so that they will become knowledgeable about their past and future.
The Drew County military community, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4515 and the American Legion Post will host a Veterans Day service on Friday at 10 a.m. on the lawn of the Drew County Courthouse. Jim Lee, a district VFW leader, will be the emcee. Ret. Brigadier. Gen. and District 9 State Rep. LeAnne Burch and Drew County Judge Robert Akin will be guest speakers. The public is encouraged to attend.
