Camden defeated Dewitt 15-3 Saturday night to win the 2013 Slugfest Tournament while Monticello defeated Stuttgart 9-2 to win the third place trophy. Teams competing in the 2-day tournament at Monticello were Monticello, Crossett, Hamburg, Camden, Camden-Harmony Grove, Stuttgart, Dewitt and Smackover.

The Drew Central Pirates captured the 3A-8 District Tournament Championship defeating McGehee 67-63 at Smackover. McGehee entered the contest having defeated Drew Central twice during the regular season and was ranked second overall in the state in the 3A Conference. Drew Central will now head to Prescott for the 3A Region 4 Tournament next week. Other participants from the 3A-8 Conference will include McGehee, Smackover, and Fordyce. University of Arkansas at Monticello head football coach Hud Jackson has released the list of 14 high school seniors who have signed National Letters of Intent to play football for the Boll Weevils starting in the 2013 season. As Southeast Arkansas football teams take the field tonight in the first round of the playoffs, players will be sporting #16 on their helmets in support of Star City linebacker Zack Towers and as a sobering reminder to keep sports in the proper perspective as Towers remains in a Little Rock hospital in the fight of his life. Prior to the Star City and Heber Springs matchup tonight, players, cheerleaders and fans for both teams will release 500 balloons in support of Towers. While fans will be cheering for their individual teams tonight, we’ll all be cheering for Zack Towers and praying for a full and speedy recovery.
