Chicot County man suspected in death of toddler

Toddler DeathA Chicot County man suspected of capital murder is being held without bond in connection with the death of his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter, Journee Orji, according to Chicot County Sheriff Ronald Nichols.

Nichols said the sheriff’s office was notified on October 31 that the child’s mother and grandmother had taken the severely injured child to the emergency room of Chicot County Medical Center. She was subsequently airlifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock where she died on November 1.

In an interview with law enforcement officers, Journee’s mother, Jasmine Evans of Lake Village, reportedly said her boyfriend, Jeffery Tucker had spanked Journee on October 31. Tucker, who had left the residence in Evans’ vehicle, was arrested by Sheriff Nichols and his deputies in Eudora shortly after 11 p.m.

At a hearing on November 2, Circuit Judge Sam Pope found probable cause to hold Tucker without bond on suspicion of capital murder. He is being held at the Jefferson County jail.

He should receive the same punishment as he put on that poor child, and then he should receive the death penalty.

“Spanked” the child? None of us ever were ever severely wounded and lost our lives from a spanking. Trust me….I’ve had some good ones.
