Steelin’ the Gospel, June 7-8
Steel guitarists, representing at least five states, will be showcased June 7-8 at the Hacketts Gospel Singing Shed, located at the intersection of highways 65 and 165, halfway between McGehee and Dermott. It is a first-time event for Southeast Arkansas. More information.

Cane Creek Day Camp set for June
Cane Creek State Park will offer four-day camps this year. Two of the camps are for kids ages 5-8, and the other two are for kids ages 9-12. The younger group’s camp dates are June 4-6 and July 11-13. The older kids’ camps are June 9-11 and July 16-18. The cost is $45 per child, and registration forms can be picked up at the park visitor center. Cost includes a snack each day; campers will need to bring a lunch each day. The camps will include fishing, hiking, nature-themed crafts, recreation activities, games, and a field trip. Call the park at (870) 628-4714 for more information, or swing by to register. Space is limited, and the camps are filling up fast.

Johnny Cash Music Festival at ASU, August 17
Vince Gill, the Gatlin Brothers, Jimmy Fortune of the Statler Brothers, Cash’s sister Joanne Cash Yates and Johnny’s younger brother Tommy Cash will perform at the 3rd annual Johnny Cash Music Festival on August 17 at the Arkansas State University Convocation Center in Jonesboro. Proceeds from the event help fund the restoration of the Johnny Cash Boyhood Home in Dyess and support a scholarship fund established in Cash’s name. Tickets are $150, $75 and $37.50. Monticello Merchants Association Friday Night Jam, 1st Fridays
The Monticello Merchant Association hosts an acoustic jam the first Friday of every month on the town square beginning at 6 p.m.

VA Representative at VFW Post in Monticello
There will be a representative from the Veteran’s Administration available to veterans the second Tuesday of each month from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the VFW Post 4515, 148 Veterans Drive (McCloy Park) in Monticello. The VA representative will assist veterans with claims, benefits, services and any questions they may have for the Veterans Administration. Veterans do not have to be from Monticello or Drew County to see the VA representative.
