Erwin Jackson Turner, 74, of Hamburg, died on October 5, 2017 at Chicot Memorial Medical Center in Lake Village.
A 1960 graduate of Hamburg High School, Mr. Turner was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the United States Navy, retiring in 1990 after 28 years of service. After he retired from the military, Mr. Turner worked as a dispatcher for the Ashley County Sheriff’s Department for several years before going to work for Southeast Arkansas Transportation “SEAT” for 10 years. He was a member of Gardner Baptist Church, Hamburg Masonic Prairie Lodge #465, Eastern Star and American Legion Post 75.
Mr. Turner was preceded in death by his parents, William Erwin and Ora Chamberlin Chance Turner; two half-brothers, Bill and Walter Chance, Jr.; a half-sister, Marie Mae Grant; and three nephews.
He is survived by a sister, Barbara Chance Foster of Hamburg; five nephews, Jimmy Stell, Hank Stell, David Chance, Donald Chance and Mark Chance; and two nieces, Patricia Miller and Carol Chance.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, at the Hamburg Cemetery with Rev. Eugene Howie officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9:45 a.m. until 10 a.m. at the cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday school class of Gardner Baptist Church.
