Dr. N. Lakshmi Battala, an obstetrician and and gynecologist, has joined Drew Memorial’s women’s services team.
A native of India, Dr. Battala graduated medical school at the age of 21 before moving to New York for residency. She has practiced medicine for 20 years, chiefly in central California.
She will provide general obstetrics and gynecology care with Dr. Kelly Shrum in Drew Memorial’s Women’s Services building behind the main hospital facility.
Patients may see Dr. Battala for family planning, obstetrics, menopausal and post-menopausal care, and everything in between.
Dr. Battala said choosing a favorite area of medicine is impossible. “I love delivering babies; I love performing surgery,” she said. “Really, I love it all.”
It has been said that when you do what you love, you never work a day in your life. This may be the case with Dr. Battala. “I just love helping people,” she said. “I have a passion for it.”
Dr. Battala spends much of her free time in prayer and meditation.
This October especially, in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Dr. Battala encourages women to give themselves a self-breast exam at least once a month and to schedule annual women’s wellness exams.
Dr. Battala wanted a new challenge and she chose to settle in Southeast Arkansas long-term because of the hospitality she experienced during her visits here. “The people here are very nice,” she says. “Everyone has been wonderful. I’ll live here forever.”
Dr. Battala’s family will be joining her in Monticello in the coming months.
Would you like to welcome our newest doctor to the area? You have two opportunities. Drew Memorial will host a meet-and-greet at Monticello Country Club on Tuesday, October 17 from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., and she will also be at Drew Memorial’s Health Fair luncheon on Friday, October 27 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Both events are open to the public.
Dr. Battala is now accepting new patients. To set up an appointment, contact Drew Memorial Women’s Services at 870-367-9700. All health insurance is accepted.
