He was born July 17, 1932 in Monticello, AR to the late James Ezra Marter and Gertrude Jane Griffith Marter.
He was retired from Burlington Industries and a member of the Dermott Assembly Of God Church. Mr. Marter played several musical instruments and loved music and singing his favorite hymns. He was a very loving husband, daddy and papaw, a friend to many and stranger to none.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Devon Marter; two brothers, J.W. Marter and James Lafayette Marter; a grandson, Timothy Edward Rhodes; a granddaughter, Tabatha DiAnn Rhodes; and a son-in-law, Carl Morris.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruby Ann Vance Marter of Collins; two daughters, Patricia Ann Morris of West Monroe, Louisiana and Melissa Marter England and husband Ronald of Osceola; a daughter-in-law, JoAnn Marter of Monticello; six grandchildren, Amanda Hudson (Shayne), Andrea Proffitt (Jesse), Angela England (Kerry), Anna Ellis (Randy), Bud England (Jordan) and Ashley Morris; and sixteen great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 9, at 1 p.m. at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Chapel with Sister Marilyn Sander officiating. Burial will follow in Union Ridge Cemetery. A family visitation will be held Monday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
