Wilmar man is second homicide victim in Drew County in 12 hours

A Wilmar man was killed Tuesday night in a shooting at his home. It was the second fatal shooting in Drew County in less than 12 hours.

Christon Sheets, 20, was shot twice in the abdomen around 11 p.m. at his home in Wilmar.

Sheets’ girlfriend, who was at the home when the shooting occurred, called 911 and Sheets was taken to Drew Memorial Hospital where he died, according to Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober.

Gober said two men who were visiting Sheets’ home Tuesday night are possible suspects.

“We are attempting to locate these men for questioning,” Gober said.

Sheets is the second homicide victim in Drew County in less than 12 hours. Earlier on Tuesday, shortly after noon, a man was fatally shot in Monticello.

Monticello Police received a report at 12:25 p.m. Tuesday of a shooting at 513 West Shelton. When officers arrived, they found 54-year-old Harold Miller, Jr., of Monticello, dead, according to State Police.

Arnold LaRon White Sr., 55, of Monticello, is facing manslaughter charges in connection with Miller’s death.
