The University of Arkansas at Monticello men’s basketball team took down Great American Conference opponent Southwestern Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon at home by a final score of 101-70.
The Weevils (17-2, 13-2 GAC) went back-and-forth with the Bulldogs of Southwestern Oklahoma State (5-15, 2-12 GAC) in the early stages of the opening half, but UAM soon powered ahead of SWOSU.
A total lead time of 35:15 paced much of this game for the Weevils, who led big at halftime, 54-27. Arkansas-Monticello’s hot shooting continued into the second half with UAM shooting 54 percent, leading to the 101-70 victory.
UAM was led on offense by both senior Vicktor Arnick and junior Tyrin Jones with 14 points each. Cobe Goosby (13), Karim Mawuenyega (13), and Troy Thomas (10) each finished the afternoon in double-figures as well.
Goosby went on to lead the Weevils in both assists and rebounds as he totaled nine in each category. Mawuenyega also built a solid stat-line of his own with six boards and dished out five assists.
Final team stats on the afternoon for the Weevils included 57 percent shooting from the field (33-for-58), 45 percent beyond the arc (10-for-22), and 74 percent on free throws (25-for-34). The Bulldogs finished the contest shooting 38 percent (25-for-66) from the field, 16 percent on three-pointers (4-for-25), and 67 percent from the charity stripe (16-for-24).
Arkansas-Monticello will return to the court on Thursday, February 9 as the Weevils will host the Reddies of Henderson State inside Steelman Field House with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
