The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team defeated No. 2 seeded Arkansas Tech, 7-3, Thursday in the first game of the GAC Championship Tournament Final Four round.
The match-up, which had been shifted over to the campus of Ouachita Baptist University due to incoming inclement weather, saw the Weevils (30-19) on the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning with a Brady Weiss sacrifice fly to left field.
UAM extended its lead in the top of the third as Andres Rios singled up the middle to knock in Weiss, for the 2-0 advantage.
The Wonder Boys (34-20) recorded three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and would hold the 1-run lead heading into the top of the ninth.
Rios connected with a ball with the bases loaded to second base in the ninth and Weiss advanced to second, and collided with the opposing infielder and ultimately made it safe to the bag, which saw the run from third score and tie up the ballgame at 3-3.
Guy Halbert hit a grand slam giving UAM the 7-3 lead, and ultimately the win.
Grant Black started the game on the mound, pitching 7 innings, allowing three earned runs, and striking out two. Landon McFadden came in on relief in the bottom of the eighth inning to face three total batters.
Dawson Moser (W, 5-1) earned the win in the contest. He pitched 1.2 innings, with three strikeouts and shutting down the ATU offense late in the game.
