[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]A Monticello man was fatally shot and the suspect was injured in a Sunday night shooting at Monticello, according to a news release from the Monticello Police Department.

Eric Thompson, 46, of Monticello, was fatally shot at 11:30 p.m. at a residence on South Gabbert Street. The suspect, who sustained injuries in the shooting, was transported to a hospital to be treated for his gunshot wounds, according to Monticello Police Chief Eddy Deaton.

The suspect’s name is not being released until he is interviewed and preliminary charges are determined, Deaton said.
