A Dumas man was killed and two men were injured Wednesday in a single vehicle accident in Chicot County near the Desha County line, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary accident report.
Steven James, 60, of Dumas was killed and his passengers, Harold Kilburn, 59, of Mountainburg, and David M. Cater, 45, of Dumas, were injured in the accident.
James was traveling south on U.S. 65 North, one mile south of the Chicot-Desha County line when his 2015 Chevrolet van left the roadway and went into the southbound ditch. The van traveled a short distance in the ditch before striking a deep embankment and culvert. After impact, the van came to a final rest a short distance south of the initial point of impact, facing southeast, according to State Trooper Caleb A. Pevehouse’s preliminary accident report.
The accident occurred at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry.
