A Strong woman was killed Monday evening in a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 82 at Lake Village.
Lanora Lowrey Poole, 81, a passenger in a 2013 Hyundai, died when the car in which she was traveling struck the rear left rear trailer tires of a 1997 Peterbuilt, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary accident report.
The driver of the Hyundai, Cora Parks, 75, also of Strong, and the driver of the Peterbuilt, Rickey Dee Rhodes, 59, of Greenville, Mississippi, were both injured in the accident, according to the accident report.
State Police said Poole and Parks were traveling west on U.S. 82 when Parks attempted to pass the westbound Peterbuilt. The Hyundai struck the left rear trailer tires of the Peterbuilt causing impact to the front of the car.
Poole died at the scene of the accident. Parks and Rhodes were transported to Chicot Memorial Hospital.
The accident occurred on February 18 at 7:10 p.m. Travel conditions were clear and dry at the time of the accident.
At least 49 people have died on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary figures.
