A Monticello woman was killed and a McGehee woman was injured Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle accident east of Monticello.
Carlyne Dickey, 88, of Monticello, was killed in the accident. Tonya Lampkin, 44, of McGehee was injured and taken to a Little Rock hospital, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary accident report.
Lampkin, the driver of a 1999 GMC, was traveling east on Highway 35 when her vehicle veered into the westbound lane causing a front-to-front impact with a westbound 2006 Mercury driven by Dickey, according to the accident report.
The accident occurred at 3:14 p.m., two miles east of the U.S. 278 bypass on Highway 35. Travel conditions were clear and the roadway was dry at the time of the accident.
At least 475 people have died on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary figures.
