Two Dermott residents have been arrested in connection with the weekend fatal shooting at Dermott where Johnny Hayes was killed and his mother was wounded.

State Police with the assistance of local law enforcement arrested Mario Milton, 27, and Alicia King, 24, both of Dermott.

Milton is suspected of first-degree murder and first-degree battery while King is suspected of hindering apprehension or prosecution, according to State Police.

Both Milton and King are jailed in Chicot County. They are scheduled for a first appearance hearing on Monday.

Johnny Hayes, 49, of Dermott was killed and his 64-year-old mother, Carolyn Hayes was wounded, according to an earlier news release from State Police.

Dermott police received a call around 12:22 a.m. Friday reporting a shooting on Skipper Bridge Road at Dermott. About 45 minutes earlier, a police officer had responded to a disturbance at the Skipper Ridge Road address where Johnny Hayes and “another person,” got into an argument.

When police arrived at the residence a second time, Johnny Hayes was in the yard, unresponsive and Carolyn Hayes was seen walking in the front yard, but wounded. Johnny Hayes was later pronounced dead at an area hospital.
