The Area 12 Special Olympics Polar Plunge will be held on February 25 at Weevil Pond on the University of Arkansas at Monticello campus.

Individuals will raise a minimum of $50 each then plunge in the chilly water to benefit Special Olympics. Plungers may plunge solo or with a team, such as a group of friends or co-workers. If plunging with a team, each team member must raise at least $50.

Registration is at noon. The awards ceremony is at 1:30 p.m. and the plunge is immediately after the awards ceremony.

Awards will be presented for best costumes and most money raised.

Those who are “too chicken to plunge,” but would like to make a donation to Special Olympics can do so by purchasing an official “I Chickened Out” t-shirt for $25.

Special Olympics Area 12 provides services to athletes in eight counties in Southeast Arkansas: Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun, Chicot, Cleveland, Dallas, Desha, and Drew.

For more information or to get a plunge form, contact Area 12 Director Ked Donham at 870-224-6600 or [email protected]

A dessert auction will be held at noon on the day of the plunge. Desserts of any kind are needed, please contact Ked Donham or Haley Scott at 723-5145 if you are interested in donating a dessert item. All proceeds from the dessert auction will remain in Area 12, whereas 30 percent of the total raised by the plunge itself is available to be used by SOAR Area 12.
