Seven high school football coaches and 21 players from Southeast Arkansas are on the 2012 “watch list” for the annual Farm Bureau Awards.
The Farm Bureau Awards honor Arkansas’ top offensive player, defensive player and coach of the year for each classification. Hootens staff selects three finalists for each category, and those 45 finalists and their families are invited to attend the Farm Bureau Awards Dec. 10 in North Little Rock.
4A coaches from Southeast Arkansas making the 4A Coach of the Year watch list are Warren coach Bo Hembree, Monticello coach Greg Tiner, Hamburg coach Mike Cox, Star City coach Blair Brown and Crossett coach Mark Kelley.
Players from Southeast Arkansas making the 4A Offensive Player of the Year watch list are:
Diante Barnhill, Beau Rush, and Cole Connelly of Monticello; Lamarco Harris, of Hamburg; Dominic Williams and River Johnson, of Crossett; Kilay Cox, Darvion Brown, Von Eric Gonder, and Brent Strickland, all of Warren; and Lavonte Gardner and Reshod Davis, of Star City.
Players from Southeast Arkansas making the 4A Defensive Player of the Year watch list are:
Kendric Newton of Warren, Justin Avery of Monticello and Corey Hodges of Crossett.
McGehee running back David Shepard is on the 3A Offensive Player of the Year watch list and teamates Steven King and Michael Risner are on the 3A Defensive Player of the Year watch list while McGehee coach Marcus Haddock is on the 3A Coach of the Year watch list. Haddock won the award last year.
Fordyce coach Tim Rogers, a Monticello native, is also on the 3A Coach of the Year watch list.
Rison coach Clay Totty made the 2A Coach of the Year watch list and three of his players, Terrell Gray, Connor James and Jarvis Broughton, made the 2A Defensive Player of the Year watch list.
