Seniors Ben Agredano and Ray Johnson delivered consecutive two-run singles in a five-run sixth inning to propel the University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team to a 9-6 win over Ouachita Baptist on the road Wednesday afternoon.
UAM’s five-run sixth inning rally came with the team trailing 4-2. UAM’s other run in the inning came off an OBU error.
The Weevils (28-11) opened the scoring on a two-run double by senior Tyler Caruthers in the top of the second inning. The Tigers (19-21) answered with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning and took its 4-2 lead with another pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning.
UAM added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth on another RBI double by Caruthers followed by an RBI groundout from sophomore Evan Comeau.
The Tigers rallied for five hits in the bottom of the ninth, but were only able to push across a pair of runs.
Junior Corbin Bell (2-1) earned the win in relief, allowing no runs off just two hits in the middle 4.1 innings. OBU’s Kyle Matusoff (1-2) took the loss after giving up the five go-ahead runs in the sixth.
The Weevils carry their nine-game conference win streak to Bethany, Okla. for a three-game series against Southern Nazarene. The series opens on Friday with a double-header starting at 1 p.m. Saturday’s finale gets underway at noon.
