The Alex Foundation’s architecture and design summer camp program has been recognized by the American Institute of Architects for its work in advancing diversity within the architecture profession, according to an AIA news release.

The Alex Foundation’s architecture and design summer camp program provides design education to youth in the rural Arkansas Delta. Architects and other allied professionals teach architecture and design a one-week co-ed camp and an all-girls camp, which was created to connect girls with women leaders in the architecture profession. For an example of the Alex Foundation’s work to empower girls at an architecture and design camp, see this archived feature story.

The AIA’s Diversity Recognition Program, now in its eleventh year, recognizes architects and organizations actively committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion within the profession. The Alex Foundation Architecture + Design Summer Camp was one of the AIA’s six honorees this year.
