Almeda Carran Hopkins Fox, 88, of Crossett, passed away January 14, 2014 at Pinewood Nursing Home.
She worked most of her life in the clothing industry which included the Shirt Factory in Hamburg and the Levi’s Factory in Star City. Mrs. Fox also worked at LaGrone’s Drug Store in Hamburg.
She loved to cook and always had a huge spread of wonderful food including pies when the family would visit, this was her way of showing her love to everyone.
Along with her culinary talents, she possessed a wonderful sense of humor, always joking around making someone smile. She was known to the Pinewood Nursing Home staff as “The Character” and some of the ladies there called her “Mimi” and to her grandchildren she was “Nannie”. Most importantly she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mrs. Fox was born on July 7, 1925 in Hamburg and was the daughter of the late Jim and Fannie Copeland.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Claude Fox; her first husband, Sammy Hopkins; a granddaughter, Tammy Hopkins; five brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Fox (Wayne) of Crossett; one son, Carl Hopkins (Robyn) of Crossett; four grandchildren, Kevin Fox, Jennifer Wood, Jamie Hopkins and Marka Cutrell; four great grandchildren, Mary Beth Wood, Hannah Hopkins and Justin and Jeremy Cutrell; two sisters-in-law, Annette Hopkins and Novelene Arnold Berry; five stepchildren; 14 step grandchildren and a host of other friends and relatives.
A funeral service will be held January 17 at 2 p.m. at Medders Funeral Home chapel with Bro. John Williams and Bro. Mike Griffith officiating, followed by an interment at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Medders Funeral Home of Crossett.
Pallbearers will be Lloyd Dean Leonard, Bill McLeod, George White, Edgar Haynie, Frankie Carter and Phillip Bowles. Honorary Pallbearers will be the the nurses and staff of Pinewood Nursing Home.
Visitation will be held January 16 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m at the funeral home.
