Andrew Allen Newton, Jr., 95 of Montrose, died February 15, 2014 at Chicot Memorial Hospital in Lake Village.
He was a lifelong resident of Montrose, a retiree of Lakeside School District, working as a mechanic for 37 years and a bus driver for 47 years. Mr. Newton loved his job.
Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his wife, Letha Ann Newton; one daughter, Doris Reed; his parents, Andrew and Mary Newton.
He is survived by three sons, Leon Allen of Oakland, Calif., George Crow, wife Brenda of Belton, Mo. and Melvin Crow of Dermott; five daughters, Brenda Peoples and husband Howard of Kansas City; Linda Brewer and husband Rev. Al; Mary Lancaster and husband Darrell; Ruth Newton and Dolleatha Webster of Montrose; 19 grandchildren, 62 two great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, and a host of other loved ones, relatives and friends.
Viewing will be February 21 from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg. Funeral services will be held February 22 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Victor Dolls officiating. Burial will be at Quinn Cemetery under the directions of Cromwell Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Charles Bynum, Lee Edward Plummer, Tarrell Morris, Lawrence Webster, Landriel Woods and Nathan Simmons. Honorary pallbearers are Al Brewer III, Darnell Lancaster, Jr., Darius Peoples, Eric Crow, Elvin Crow, Howard Peoples, Julian Crow and Eugene Battles.
