The Arkansas Arts Center Children’s Theatre on Tour recently performed Dorothy in Oz in the Star City High School auditorium for students in Jimmy Brown Elementary School and Star City Middle School.

The performance was sponsored by the Star City High School Art Club in order to provide cultural enrichment for students in the Star City School District.

“We are proud to be able to provide our students with an opportunity to enjoy a performing arts experience,” said Star City High School Art Club sponsor Roger Darren High. “Many of our students haven’t had the opportunity to attend live theatre so we are happy to be able to bring a performance to Star City for our students.”

Children’s Theatre on Tour is part of the Statewide ArtsReach Programs at the Arkansas Arts Center, the state’s premier center for visual and performing arts. Recognized by The Drama League as one of the best regional theatre companies in America, the Arkansas Arts Center Children’s Theatre is the only professional company in Arkansas that produces children’s literary works for the stage.

“The Children’s Theatre on Tour brings the magic of the theatre to thousands of children and families across the state,” Arkansas Arts Center Executive Director Todd Herman said. “Every year, their performances wow the audiences and create extraordinary theatre experiences that educate, challenge and inspire young people and their communities.”

Once upon a time, a simple young lady from the plain Kansas prairie was swept away on a whirlwind adventure into a land of awesome beauty, surprising creatures, and wonderful magic. Now she’s going back to be a very special guest at the birthday party of Princess Ozma of Oz where an exciting telling of her own story is to be the highlight of the festivities. Dorothy couldn’t be more excited. The only question is: How will she get there this time? Cyclone? Sea voyage gone awry? Earthquake? An enchanted road? It seems that all ways lead to Oz if you can just find the right one for you. Dorothy in Oz is written by Keith Smith and directed by Katie Campbell.

Children’s Theatre on Tour has been traveling to venues around the state throughout the 2017–2018 school season. Dorothy in Oz will tour April 10 – May 13, 2018. The 2017-2018 season is sponsored by Diane Suitt Gilleland and U.S. Bank Foundation with additional support by The Shubert Foundation.
