The Arkansas Health Department Monday evening reported more than 500 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state and seven coronavirus-related deaths.

Earlier Monday afternoon, the number of reported confirmed cases was at 473. It climbed to 508 by 7 p.m.

All seven counties in extreme southeast Arkansas have at least one confirmed case of the virus.

During his coronavirus update Monday afternoon, Gov. Asa Hutchinson announced that he had allocated an additional $45 million for the purchase of personal protective equipment for health care professionals, workers and first-responders and the purchase of ventilators for hospitals, as they become available in the marketplace.

The governor previously authorized the release of $30 million for the purchase of personal protective equipment health care professionals and workers as well as first-responders. “But based upon the demand and need that is out there, and projecting the future, that $30 million investment in protective equipment is not going to be sufficient to last us through this crisis, and that is very clear,” he said.
