The 42nd Annual Armadillo Festival at Hamburg will be held this week. The 5-day festival includes pageants, Praise Fest, Pachanga night featuring Mexican bands and food, armadillo races, carnival rides, arts and crafts, an antique tractor show, lawn mower races, a pancake breakfast, a 5K run, a 1-mile walk, tours of the Ashley County museum, a street dance, and other activities, entertainment and food. Entertainment includes Ben Coulter, Trey Hawkins, Haley Creek Boys, thew Cummins Prison Band, and more.

The festival begins May 1 at 7 p.m. with the pageants at the Hamburg High School auditorium. The pageants will feature competition in a variety of age groups for both boys and girls.

Praise Fest, a new festival event this year, is Wednesday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on the Hamburg town square. Local churches and Christian groups will be performing.

Miller Spectacular carnival rides will be open Wednesday through Saturday.

Thursday will be Pachanga Night featuring Mexican bands and food.

Friday night festivities begin 5:15 p.m. on the Hamburg town square with the Armadillo weigh-in and races. The winner receives $100 cash. Entertainment includes Godsend from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. and Dollashort from 9 p.m. until 11 p.m. Dollashort was formerly known as the L. A. Codgers.

Saturday includes a full day of activities and food. There will be arts and crafts, carnival rides, an antique tractor show, lawn mower races, and local entertainment throughout the day. The annual pancake breakfast will be held at 6:30 a.m. at Hamburg First United Methodist Church.

Also, on Saturday, there will be a 5K run/1 mile walk sponsored by Ashley County Cares, and the Barbara Harrison Fun Run, tours of the Ashley County Museum, and other activities.

Saturday’s entertainment includes the Haley Creek Boys from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Ben Coulter from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., and Trey Hawkins from 9 p.m. until 11 p.m. The Street Dance begins at 9 p.m. and ends 11 p.m.
