Michael Ashcraft, a former treasurer of the Arkansas Court Reporters Association, was arrested and charged with theft for stealing more than $100,000 from from the organization, according to a news release from Attorney General Leslie Rutledge’s office.
Ashcraft, of Warren, turned himself in to Bradley County authorities and has been released on $15,000 bond.
Ashcraft is accused of stealing more than $100,000 from the Arkansas Court Reporters Association between January 2015 and June 2018.
An audit and a subsequent investigation by the public integrity division of the Attorney General’s Office found that he (allegedly) used association membership funds by comingling legitimate association purchases with his own personal purchases and purchases for others, according to the news release.
Ashcraft, the Warren Fire Chief, previously was a court reporter in the 10th Judicial District in Southeast Arkansas.
