Crossett Special Election

Ashley County voters in a special election on Tuesday agreed to continue a quarter-cent sales tax for the local hospital while Crossett voters agreed to continue a quarter-cent sales tax for economic development and a 4-mill property tax hike to build a new high school.

The Crossett School District millage increase, the only new tax among the three tax requests, will fund a $32 million bond issue to build a new Crossett High School and refinance the district’s current debt on the elementary and middle schools. The increase will raise the district’s millage rate to 39.97.

The other tax requests are sales tax continuations, a quarter-cent to fund maintenance and capital improvements at Ashley County Medical Center, and a quarter-cent to the Crossett Economic Development Foundation to fund local economic development efforts.
