Aubrey Sam Avants, 59, of Woodlawn died May 20, 2015 at Central Arkansas Veteran’s Healthcare System in Little Rock.

He was a Vietnam veteran with the United States Army and was retired from the Pine Bluff Arsenal, where he was a chemical disposer. He was also a retired truck driver and was a member of the “Red Neck Hunting Club” on the White River. He loved to hunt and fish and have fellowship with his friends and trucking buddies.

Mr. Avants was born on August 29, 1955 in Crossett and was the son of the late Sam and Katherine Owen Avants.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Ward Avants of Woodlawn; three sons, Chad (Angel) Avants of Woodlawn, Bryan Avants of White Hall and Eric Avants of Louisiana; a brother, Joe Mayer of Pine Bluff; a sister, Cava Owen of White Hall; four grandsons, Clayton Avants, Landon Avants, Spencer Avants and Dakota Avants; three granddaughters, Jeanne Roth, Crystal Roth and Scarlet Roth; and other grandchildren in Louisiana.

Graveside services will be held on are May 23 at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery with Bro. Sam Griffin officiating. Visitation will be May 22 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Home in Star City.
