Drew County Sheriff Mark Gober says authorities have developed a “person of interest” in an animal abuse case in which someone killed a cat by setting it on fire.
The burning cat was discovered late Wednesday afternoon by a Spring Branch resident who saw the 12-year-old calico run from between two homes and toward a street in the Spring Branch subdivision. Behind the cat was a teen-aged boy, Gober said.
The cat ran to a nearby residence where it got into the motor compartment of a vehicle. The cat was taken to a local vet but it did not survive. It died the following day, Gober said.
Gober said one person has been interviewed and cleared. He said there is another “person of interest” who will be interviewed as well.
The cat was a family pet., according to Gober.
