Mahli Dircil Arrington, charged with robbing a Monticello bank in October, was sentenced Wednesday to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to kidnapping, aggravated robbery, theft, and felon in possession of a firearm.
Shortly before 8 a.m. on October 26, Arrington, 21, ordered a Commercial Bank employee at gunpoint to open the bank safe. He was arrested the same day at a nearby residence.
Circuit Judge Bynum Gibson on Wednesday sentenced Arrington to 20 years in prison for kidnapping and 20 years for armed robbery, to be served consecutively. He was also sentenced 10 years each for theft and felon in possession of a firearm. The sentences for the theft and firearm possession crimes will be served concurrently.
