Benard Swopes, 71, of Watson passed away on August 29, 2017 at his home.

He was born on January 14, 1946 in Kelso and was the son of the late Magellan Swopes and Irene Smith Swopes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Levell Swopes, Magellan Swopes, Jr., and Danny Swopes; a sister Iona Harmon; a grandson, William Swopes-Hall; and a son in law, Kenneth Coger.

Mr. Swopes was a retired farmer and a member of Tabernacle of Faith Church.

Survivors are his wife, Mabel Swopes of Watson; two sons, Tracy (Diedre) Swopes and Charles Swopes of Watson; two daughters, Aretha Swopes and Sarah Swopes Coger both of Watson; two brothers, Leonard C. Swopes of Kelso and Augusta (Alma) Swopes of Chicago, Illinois; four sisters, Doris J. Booth of Los Angeles, California, Hazel S. Bryant of Kelso, Darlene S. (Larry) Tripplett of San Mateo, California and Catherine S. Robinson of Bryant; four grandchildren, Trinity Swopes, Jasmine Swopes, Everett Coger and Mia Swopes; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 8 from 5-7 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Home.

Funeral services held Saturday, September 9, at 10 a.m. at First Church of God In Christ, located at 100 Sherman Street in McGehee.
