Betty Charlene Ashcraft Simmons Chapman, 79, of Monticello, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 27, 2020 at St. Vincent in Little Rock.
She was born on December 19, 1940 at Rye to the late J.J. Swinney and Verna Mae Ashcraft Swinney.
Betty was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Monticello and a former member of Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church. She was a devout Christian leaving her family with a Godly heritage to live by. She lived a life that was instrumental in leading people to the Lord.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jody Lee Simmons who passed away March 28, 1997; stepbrothers, Landal Swinney and Marlyn Swinney; sisters, Joy Young and Janet Lilies.
She is survived by her husband, Victor Chapman of Monticello whom she married on October 9, 1998; sons, David Simmons and spouse Karen of Warren and Mark Simmons and spouse Angie of Warren; a daughter, Gail Pennington and spouse Mickey of Lake Village; stepchildren, Mark Chapman and spouse Patsy of Hermitage, Vicki Erwin and spouse Terry of Monticello, and Heather Perry and spouse Chris of Rye; a brother, Wendol Swinney of Rye and stepbrother Melton Swinney of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Kacy Gill of Hamburg, Kellie Roberson of Warren, Lani Gavin and spouse Justin of Pansy, Derek Simmons of Warren, Toxey Simmons of Warren, Callie Harris and spouse Josh of Warren, and Joey Simmons of Warren; 10 step-grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, June 29 at Southside Baptist Church with Bro. Richard Barley officiating. Burial will be at Crossroads Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers are Mark Chapman, Joey Simmons, Toxey Simmons, Dalton Gill, Justin Gavin, Josh Harris. Honorary pallbearers are Paul Dottley, Bruce Huffman, Wesley Curtis, Derek Simmons and Kelly Adkinson.
