Billy Carroll Shelton, 79, of Crossett, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2021.
He was born on January 30, 1942, to his parents, Dwight, Sr. “Red” and Clara Neighbors Shelton, and was a lifelong resident of Ashley County.
Bill was a 1960 graduate of Crossett High School and a proud member of North Crossett Freewill Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing in the choir.
Over the years, Billy worked as a mechanic for Jr. Meeks Chevrolet and both Etheridge and Ashley Motor Companies. After he retired, his days and sometimes evenings consisted of hanging out at the EZ Mart in North Crossett, meeting and visiting with people while sipping a cup of coffee. Although he wasn’t on the payroll, many people knew him as the unofficial door greeter, always greeting customers with kind words and an unforgettable smile.
Billy was a simple man who loved his family and was rich in friends and in his relationship with Jesus Christ.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Tucker Shelton, one infant daughter, Cheryl Corene Shelton, and one brother, Dwight C. Shelton Jr.
He is survived by one daughter, Sharon Gaught of Gassville, AR; one son, Robert Shelton, and wife, Kerri, of Hamburg; along with five grandchildren, Garrett Kent (Shannon), Catherine and Rachel Gaught, Lorna Shelton, and Grace Peacock (Dalton); and three great-grandchildren, Autumn Kent, Benjamin Debow, and Jackson Peacock.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, at Pinewood Memorial Park, with Pastor Joey Johnson officiating. Pallbearers are James Ray Lake, Rusty McCone, Mike Bays, Dennis Rice, James Smith, and Roy Patterson.
Honorary pallbearers are the Adult Men Sunday School Class at North Crossett Freewill Baptist Church.
