Billy Joe Hughes, 72, of Pine Bluff, formerly of Monticello, passed away on May 9, 2020 at Jefferson Regional Medical Center in Pine Bluff.
He was born on July 24, 1947 in Monticello to the late S.G. Hughes and Thelma Myhand Hughes.
He retired from International Paper/Evergreen Packaging where he started as a laborer in 1969, moving up to general mechanic and retiring as precision maintenance instructor. He was a National Guard Veteran before transferring to Air Force Reserves retiring in 1986, and joined Cornerville Missionary Baptist Church in 1969.
Mr. Hughes enjoyed his horse drawn wagon drives, was an avid outdoorsman and also enjoying squirrel hunting and crappie fishing. He never met a stranger, enjoyed talking, and would argue with a fence post. He enjoyed tinkering and took pride in his ability to make broken things work.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one brother, Charlie Hughes.
Survivors include one son, Marty Hughes of Cornerville; one daughter, Carri Langley and husband Mike of Pine Bluff; two granddaughters, Corri Langley and Calli Langley; one sister, Betty Hughes of Monticllo; one sister in law, Donna Hughes of Monticello; and a special friend and caregiver, Cora Allen.
