Billy Joe Myers, 89, of McGehee, passed away on April 7, 2018.
He was born and lived his entire life in McGehee where he worked for Shelter Insurance Company as a district sales manager and state sales manager until his retirement 1993. He was a member of McGehee First Baptist Church.
Mr. Myers had a lifelong passion for fishing and hunting. He loved going to the horse races at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs and had the opportunity to travel the world on company trips. He fulfilled a lifelong dream when he attended the Kentucky Derby. He lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger.
Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his parents, Ora Vardaman “Jack” Myers and Marnette Dishongh Myers.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edwardeen Burgess Myers; a son, Allen Myers of Little Rock; a daughter, Lee Wiseman and husband Steve of Birmingham, Alabama; a grandson, William Mason Wiseman; a brother, Ben Allen Myers of Brinkley; and his sister, Wanda Lynn Landry of Washington, Illinois.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 11 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in McGehee. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Kenny Culpepper officiating.
In his later years, Mr. Myers came to love dogs. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a local Humane Society or Rescue Group.
