A McGehee man and a Monticello man who are alleged to have cut down seven C&L Electric power poles and stripped them of copper wire are being held on $10,000 bond each.

The alleged theft was discovered last week when a Chicot County deputy sheriff stopped James Valentine, of McGehee, and Jamie Wilhite for speeding. As he approached the pickup truck, the deputy saw copper wire in the back of the truck.

C&L Electric confirmed that seven power poles in the Four Mile Creek Road area of Drew County had been cut down with an ax and stripped of the copper wire valued at about $8,000.
