He was a 1951 graduate of Henderson State University. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during Korean Conflict, where as a Captain, he trained pilots. Boyce had a life that most would have loved to have accomplished. He worked for Alcoa from 1954 until 1958 and was hired by Witt & Jack Stephens to oversee the building and opening of The Coachmans Inn in Little Rock. He served as City Manager of Arkadelphia from 1966 until 1975. Along with Bonnie came a bright, funny, little boy named Tab, who very quickly fell in love with Boyce and looked up to him. In 1969, Tab and Leanne welcomed a tag-along sister, Amy Kay.
