Bradley County voters go to the polls today to consider a proposed 5-year, half-cent, county-wide sales tax that would generate revenue to help fund the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office, purchase material to pave county roads and fund economic development efforts.

The Bradley County Quorum Court several months ago adopted the ordinance calling for the special election. The vote was 7-2 with Justices Bobby Hargraves and Melvin Mills casting the dissenting votes.

Based on the early votes, County Clerk Karen Belin expects a good voter turnout. “We had 137 early votes,” Belin said. “For a special election, I thought that was pretty good.”
