Meri Whitney Brown, a certified speech language pathologist and Monticello native, has returned home to become a part of the South Arkansas Rehabilitation team.
Brown graduated from Monticello High in 2007 and completed her undergraduate work in Speech and Hearing Sciences from Delta State University in 2011. She then furthered her education at the University of Central Arkansas where she received her Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders. Brown completed several clinical rotations throughout the state of Arkansas and worked her first year in Hot Springs, Arkansas at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Nat Grubbs, owner of South Arkansas Rehabilitation, said adding speech therapy for adults has been a long-term goal of his business. “We are excited that Meri Whitney has returned to Monticello, and we feel very fortunate to be able to partner with her to provide speech therapy to adults in south Arkansas,” Grubbs said.
Brown will provide speech therapy for adults who have suffered strokes, traumatic brain injuries or any other medical circumstance leaving the individual with language difficulties, swallowing difficulties or difficulty speaking in a way that is understood by others.
“There’s no place like home,” Brown said. “I am thrilled to be back in Monticello providing adult speech therapy services to adults of Southeast Arkansas. I am also very grateful for the opportunity to partner with South Arkansas Rehabilitation and provide another facet of therapeutic interventions in our area of the state.”
