C. A. Bawcom, 81, of Montrose, died September 20, 2014 at the Chicot Memorial Medical Center in Lake Village.
He was a native of the Troy Community in Drew County and a resident of Montrose and Parkdale for most of his life.
Mr. Bawcom graduated from Portland High School in 1950 and Arkansas A&M, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello, in 1954. He owned and operated the IGA Grocery Store in Portland and the Bawcom Grocery Store in Montrose for many years. He was a member of the Montrose Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Nora Fuller Bawcom in 2011; a great-grandson, Andrew Payton Wells and his parents, Aubrey Davis and Malvi Ruth Andrews Bawcom.
He is survived by a son, Larry Bawcom and wife, Linda; a daughter, Kathy Coulter and special friend, John Patrick, all of Montrose; seven grandchildren, Audrea B. Stephens and husband, Chuck, of Monticello, Christopher D. Wells and wife, Bridget, of Lake Village, Dane Bawcom and wife, Dawn, of Charlotte, Benjamin L. Coulter and wife, Sheffield, of Little Rock, Brian Rush of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Shelley Baldwin of Jasper, Alabama and Jillian Lemonds and husband, Jimmy, of McGehee, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside funeral service and burial will be 11 a.m. September 23 at the Trafalgar Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Perry Wilson, James Hill, Glen Bond, Steve Price, Willie Joe Griffin, Emory Austin, Jackie White and Reed Breedlove.
