Carolyn Ann Austin

Carolyn “Ann” Austin, 74, of Hamburg, died June 26, 2021 in Little Rock.

Mrs. Austin was a native of the Berlin community, south of Hamburg, where she lived on the same piece of land her entire life.

A 1965 graduate of Hamburg High School, Mrs. Austin worked at the Hamburg Shirt Factory, and later in her life, she worked in Home Health as a Certified Nurses Assistant. She was very involved in her community, and for many years she wrote the Extra Community News column for the Ashley County Ledger. Mrs. Austin loved her church and was a faithful member of Tillou Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother and loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Horace M. Pollock in 1990; her parents, Easter and Reavie Holland Kinnaird; three sisters, Rachel Summerland, Bonnie Dean Kinnaird and Jean Doles; and four brothers, Larry L. Kinnaird, Charles Edward Kinnaird, Tom I. Kinnaird and R.E. “Buddy” Kinnaird.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, James L. Austin of Hamburg; her son, James “Jim” Pollock and wife, Lisa, of Bastrop, Louisiana; her stepson, Philip Austin and wife, Jessica, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; two sisters, Sara Cruse of Monticello and Faye Hunter of Hamburg; five grandchildren, Hailey Pepper and husband, Matt, Cody Pollock, Abigail Pollock, Matthew Pollock and Ari Pollock; two great-grandchildren, Gauge Pepper and Autumn Pollock and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Monday, June 28, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Tillou Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 29, at 10 a.m. at the church with Bro. Taylor Freeland and Bro. Allan Eppinette officiating. Burial will at in the Extra Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Cody Pollock, Ragan Hunter, Kirk Doles, Keith Summerland, Cleveland Summerland, Junior Cruse, Chuck Kinnaird and Andy Kinnaird. Honorary pallbearers are the Men of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class at Tillou Baptist Church.
