The Casey Crowder Memorial Scholarship Tournament will be held on June 25 at 1 p.m. at the Monroe-Ryburn Field in Pine Bluff. Six little league and four big league teams will participate.

The purpose of the tournament, held in memory of Casey Crowder, is to promote teen safety awareness. Crowder was kidnapped and killed in 2006 in Desha County.

On August 27, 2006, while driving along U.S. 65 near Dumas, Crowder’s vehicle ran out of gas. Her body was found on Sept. 2 with a black zip-tie around her neck. She was 17.

Kenneth Osburn pleaded guilty in June 2014, to kidnapping and second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder and 10 years for kidnapping.

Sgt. Lynn Wright of the Pine Bluff Police Department will be the guest speaker at the memorial tournament and Crowder’s mother, Melinda Crowder will present the annual scholarships. There will also be a balloon release before the games start.

The little league teams are led by two-time defending champion Emergency Ambulance Service. Also playing will be Arkansas Printing, Hunter’s Slammers, Miller’s Lawn Service, Simmons Bank and Stant.

The big league teams include defending champs Relyance Bank, along with Shannon’s Restaurant, Bank of Star City and Johnny Huggins State Farm.
