Charlean Benton Crain of Lake Village, passed away on March 16, 2017 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
She was born in Lake Village and was the daughter of the late Charlie Benton and Emma Hedge Benton.
She was a graduate of University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (formerly Arkansas AM&N) and received a master’s degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She taught school at Central High School and Lakeside High School in Lake Village, before retiring in 1973. She tutored many children in the community, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 40 years, and was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served in many capacities.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Shirley J. Benton and Flenoy Baldwin; and her brother, Charles Pembroke.
She is survived by her daughters, Hannah E. Crain of Fayetteville; Esther Crain-Holden (Milton) of Columbia, Maryland; Genell Reeves (Kermit) of Grand Blanc, Michigan; Caroline Miller of Flint, Michigan; and Bonnie Butler of Flint, Michigan; her sons, Larry D. Crain (Rose) of Mesa, Arizona; Jessie Bell of Pine Bluff; and Melvin Fordham of Flint, Michigan; and numerous grandchildren, family, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017 at Griffin-Culpepper Funeral Service in Lake Village.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Lake Village with Rev. Ceasar Paul King officiating. Burial will be held at New Cemetery in Lake Village.
