Charlene Thornton Ferguson, 88, of Warren, died on June 5, 2017 at Pines Nursing and Rehab Center in Hot Springs.
She was a homemaker, retired tomato farmer, and a member of Martins Chapel United Methodist Church at Sumpter.
Mrs. Ferguson was born on New Years Day, 1929 at Sumpter and was one of nine children of Charlie Green Thornton and Wadie Smith Thornton. She was a graduate of Hermitage High School. She enjoyed her grandchildren, granddogs, cooking, gardening and feeding birds, especially hummingbirds. She lived most of her life in the country between Warren and Hermitage at Sumpter in Bradley County, with later stops at Warren, Star City, and finally Hot Springs.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Homer K. Ferguson; two sisters, Louise Thornton Camp and Rachel Thornton Taylor; five brothers, W.J. Thornton, Leroy Thornton, Leon Thornton, Harold Kenneth Thornton and Charles Thornton; and son-in-law, Perry Meyer.
She is survived by three children, Ann Meyer of Denver, Colorado, Sandra Ferrell (Harry C.) of Hot Springs, and David Charles Ferguson (Belinda) of Jonesboro; four grandchildren, Homer Ross Meyer, Denver, Colorado, Julie Ann Meyer Julian, Denver, Colorado, Jake Ferguson, Los Angeles, California and Luke Ferguson, Memphis, Tennessee; three great-grandchildren, Ryan Julian, Sean Hembree, and Alex Julian all of Denver, Colorado; her brother and sister-in-law, Billy Joe and Wilma Thornton of Warren; a sister-in-law Hilda Thornton of Warren; her adopted grandchild, Megan Savage of Amity, formerly of Warren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 10 at 2 p.m. at Frazer’s Funeral Home in Warren with Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Visitation will begin two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Outlaw Cemetery.
