Charles Fred “Buck” Thompson, 86, of Crossett, died on July 10, 2017, surrounded by his family, at Drew Memorial Hospital in Monticello.
He was born on January 7, 1931, in Jonesboro, Louisiana and was the son of the late Solomon, and Senrita Spurlock Thompson. At the age of 5, his family moved to Crossett where he was raised.
On September 13, 1958, Mr. Thompson married his sweetheart, Betty Morine Martin.
For 35 years, Mr. Thompson worked at Jr. Meeks Chevrolet as an auto mechanic. He retired in 1988. He was a member of North Crossett First Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and visiting with others, including his Andy’s coffee group, but especially loved spending time with his granddaughter, Whitney Lynn.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Bernard Thompson; and two sisters, Annie Lucille Lum; and infant sister, Martha Jane Thompson.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Morine Thompson; a daughter, Martha Jane Murphy and husband Pete; a granddaughter, Whitney Lynn Murphy; and a brother, Bobby L. Thompson and wife Minnie all of Crossett; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 12 at 11 a.m. at Medders Funeral Home Chapel, 1564 Hwy 52 W, in Crossett, with Johnnie Bolin and Bro. Jerry Martin officiating. Burial will be at Crossroads Cemetery under the direction of Medders Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held on Wedneday from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., prior to the funeral service.
Pallbearers are Donnie Martin, Ben Martin, Darrell Wise, J.W. Martin, Charles Martin, and Bill Lum. Honorary pallbearers are his Andy’s coffee group.
Memorials may be made to the Ashley County Relay for Life.
